Fishamble is pleased to announce its collaboration with Uversity, the innovative arts educator, continuing the company’s commitment to new ways of training and mentoring to nurture new talent.
Together, Fishamble and Uversity will provide an innovative and unique higher education experience for Irish and international students through academic engagement and creative practice. Artistic Director Jim Culleton is Uversity’s creative mentor for theatre for the MA in Creative Process, and will lead the programme delivery of the Immersion in Theatre short programme. Both Uversity programmes are now enrolling.
Immersion in Theatre
Immersion in Theatre is a first for Ireland. This five day programme gives participants a truly immersive insight into the workings of the Olivier Award-winning Fishamble: The New Play Company through readings, workshops, lectures, master classes and performances with leading theatre practitioners. Students will have the opportunity to create and perform a ‘tiny play’ and attend a major theatre production in Dublin including a command performance by Pat Kinevane.
Who is this course for?
Immersion in Theatre is for participants of all ages and backgrounds. The only requirement is that you have an enthusiastic understanding of theatre, an openness to new experiences and a good command of written and spoken English for the playwriting component of the course.
How is the course delivered?
The full course takes place over 5 days and includes:
- 3 days exploring and analysing Fishamble’s work, with master classes, focussed readings and discussions with leading theatre professionals and academics.
- 2 days in a structured playwriting workshop where you will create and perform your own ‘tiny play.’ Each participant will receive an individual recording of their production.
Each programme will include attendance at a major theatre production in Dublin including a command performance by Pat Kinevane of one of Fishamble’s works
Participants have the option to enroll for the full 5 days, for 3 days, or for 2 days. However, spaces are limited and priority will be given to those who choose the full 5 days.
When Will It Take Place?
This course will run three times in 2017 in
- February (5 Days: 15-19 Feb; 3 Days: 15-17 Feb; 2 Days: 18-19 Feb)
- March (5 Days: 14-18 Mar; 3 Days: 14-16 Mar; 2 Days: 17-18 Mar)
- October (5 Days: 13-17 Oct; 3 Days: 13-15 Oct; 2 Days: 16-17 Oct)
How Much Will It Cost?
- 5 Day Course: €1,300
- 3 Day Course: €700
- 2 Day Course: €700
Fee includes tuition, lunch, documentation and performance tickets but excludes travel, accommodation and other meals.
How do I Apply?
Applicants will be asked to complete an online application form and submit a maximum of 300 words describing a recent experience of theatre they admire and why.
Uversity is a new concept in arts education. They have established a network of partnerships with proven academic and creative institutions to help individuals explore their potential and advance their creative career. Uversity programmes provide a combination of academic engagement and creative practice. They tap into a unique collaborative community of practising artists and academic institutions with a shared mission to stimulate creative minds and develop practical skills.
