Fishamble is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2009 Fishamble New Writing Award as part of the Absolut Fringe is Grace Dyas, for her play ROUGH. Grace will receive a €1,000 bursary towards her next script, a scholarship place on one of Fishamble’s playwriting courses, as well as dramaturgical support from Fishamble.

Other short-listed nominees for the award included Una Kavanagh (Black Bessie), Lisa Tierney-Keogh (Four Last Things), Manchán Magan (Broken Croí / Heart Briste) and Rosemary Jenkinson (Johnny Meister and the Stitch).

About the Fishamble New Writing Award:

Now in its 3rd year, the Fishamble New Writing Award is an integral part of the Absolut Dublin Fringe Festival.

The purpose of the award is to recognise new and emerging Irish talent and to offer Fishamble’s resources and support in development of the winning writer’s next play. Each year, Fishamble awards the playwright of the most outstanding new Fringe script a scholarship place on a Fishamble playwriting course, dramaturgical support and a €1,000 bursary towards the playwright’s next script.

Criteria for eligibility:

To be eligibile for consideration in the Fishamble New Writing Award, writers must:

- be a new / developing / emerging writer
- be Irish or based in Ireland
- submit their play to Fishamble by Friday 14th August.

Previous winners of the Fishamble New Writing Award include Shona McCarthy (2007) for her play Married To The Sea, presented by Dragonfly Productions, and Elaine Murphy (2008) for Little Gem, presented by Gúna Nua.
