Forgotten
by Pat Kinevane

About Forgotten
Forgotten is a captivating solo piece for theatre written and performed by Pat Kinevane. The play portrays four characters, between the ages of 80-100 years old, who reside in care facilities and retirement homes. 1943 was a curious year for this quartet – their lives have never been the same since…
Presented as a unique collage of Kabuki dance and Irish storytelling, Forgotten is, at times, a challengingly dark and, at other times, startlingly hilarious portrayal of the challenges facing older people in Ireland today.
Pat Kinevane and Jim Culleton spent six months developing and rehearsing Forgotten with support from a number of artists, academics, designers and community and health experts. This period culminated in its first performance in 2006 for the Bealtaine Festival when it was met with an overwhelming response.
This production was developed with the help of a Dublin City Council Incubation Space Award in 2006. It opened in 2007 and was nominated for an Irish Times Theatre Award for that year. Since then, it has been performed in a variety of traditional and non-traditional spaces, including special performances earlier this year for World Elder Abuse Day and for the centenary of the Hugh Lane Gallery. During 2008-9, it has toured extensively in Ireland and to Paris, Prague, Sibiu, Edinburgh, and New York. Later this year will be presented at the Lokal International Theatre Festival in Reyjkavik, Iceland and, in 2010, will be presented in New York as well as continuing its Irish tour.
