Jim Culleton on Silent for Bloomsbury Methuen Drama

We’re super excited that our globetrotting production of SILENT by Pat Kinevane will make its London premiere next week, in the Soho Theatre, with support from Culture Ireland and in association with Georganne Aldrich Heller. Jim Culleton, the play’s director, has been asked to write about the process of creating Silent with Pat for Bloomsbury Methuen Drama blog. Methuen published all three plays by Fishamble and Pat Kinevane – Forgotten and Silent as one volume and Underneath as a separate book.  These playscripts are available at the performances and also through our office  – just call 01 6704018 or drop […]

Annual Performing Arts Conference

Annual Performing Arts Conference

We look forward to the beginning of June each year, not only because the days are definitely and visibly longer, but also because that is when the Theater Forum’s Annual Performing Arts Conference takes place. This is an opportunity for the sector to meet, discuss, persuade, shake heads and fists, laugh, share, listen, learn, and question. This year, the conference is held in The Model in Sligo with programme curated by Jo Mangan. If you’re interested, follow Theatre Forum on Twitter (@TheatreForumIE) and Facebook (Theatre Forum Ireland). They are linking to new speaker content each day in the countdown to […]

Literary Internship With Fishamble: Emily Michaels

Literary Internship With Fishamble: Emily Michaels

I’ve been lucky enough to be involved in the arts in some way ever since I was a child and as a result, have joined a large portion of the world in developing a very strong passion for them, theatre in particular. I was naturally thrilled when I learned that the internship position I would be holding during my semester abroad would be the literary assistant for Fishamble. I have absolutely loved my time here and in addition to getting to read over new 30 plays and really exploring just what makes for a good show, I have also learned […]

A Noble Call for Marriage Equality

A Noble Call for Marriage Equality

Last week, the theatre community gathered in the Abbey Theatre for a Noble Call for Marriage Equality, hosted by Senator Fiach MacConghail and Cllr Mannix Flynn. It was an excellent event, very poignant, honest, touching, funny, frank and moving. This short video edit gives you an idea of the great atmosphere in the Abbey that morning. Watch the video by clicking on the picture. You know what to do!

Marketing Internship With Fishamble: Michael Tyrrell

Being a relatively latecomer to theatre going, my interest piqued by a brief dalliance with drama theory in college, I never put too much thought into what actually goes into the producing and touring of a play. My attention too enamoured by the sights and sounds conjured live on stage before me. Participating in a marketing internship with Fishamble: The New Play Company however, has given me a new found appreciation for the efforts and myriad processes involved in getting that show to the stage. The creativity, diligence and focused coordination employed by the Fishamble team ensures that quality, original […]

Little Thing, Big Thing Touring Around Europe

Little Thing, Big Thing Touring Around Europe

Our stage Manager Steph Ryan has taken some photos while touring the last few weeks with Little Thing, Big Thing. The production has been to the Clwyd Theatr Cymru as part of the Celtic Festival, Centre Culturel Irlandais and to the Geneva Literary Aid Society. We’re very grateful to Culture Ireland for their support, which makes such international touring possible. Little Thing, Big Thing is currently running in the Project Arts Centre – the only Irish venue this year, catch it before it ends on May 16. These shots are from Mold in Wales – the venue, views from the […]

Little Thing, Big Thing in Centre Culturel Irlandais, Paris

After a super week in Clwyd Theatr Cymru, the Little Thing, Big Thing team has arrived in Paris for two performances. The Centre Culturel Irlandais is beautiful (and definitely worth a visit if you haven’t been) and the performance space incredibly atmospheric. All staff are super friendly and audiences are warm and responsive. We’re looking forward to them!

Four Courts, forecourts, courts two, three and four?

Four Courts, forecourts, courts two, three and four?

(by Jim Culleton) Fishamble’s production of LITTLE THING, BIG THING by Donal O’Kelly is currently previewing at the gorgeous Cymru Theatr Clwyd in Wales. Whenever Fishamble tours its work internationally, there can be small instances of confusion caused by cultural differences. I remember when we brought Sebastian Barry’s play THE PRIDE OF PARNELL STREET to New York, audiences took some time to realise that ‘buggy’ meant ‘stroller’ and so on. In Donal’s play, the characters are chased across Ireland, as they try to reach the Four Courts to give a roll of film to someone. Some audience members heard this, […]

Little Thing, Big Thing starts its 2015 touring

Little Thing, Big Thing starts its 2015 touring

Almost exactly a year after the premiere run of LITTLE THING, BIG THING, we are reviving the production to bring it to audiences in  England, France, Switzerland, Scotland, America and Dublin city centre. You may remember a year ago, the play was co-commissioned by the STROLLERS Touring Network (a great group of excellent venues), and toured to 16 theatres around Ireland. In 2015, with generous support from Culture Ireland, Donal O’Kelly (who also wrote the wonderful script) and Sorcha Fox are back to star as we are taking the show further afield. This week, the team is in Clwyd Theatr […]
